BelSU scientists, who studied genetic characteristics of the citizens of Belgorod region and other central regions of Russia, made a contribution into the forming of a “genetic portrait” of a Russian.
The SPbSU scientists plan to characterize genome of a Russian to the 2018. For this purpose they will collect 1,5 thousands of blood samples and analyze the genomes. People, who have constantly lived in a villages for no less than three generations would participate in the research. Metropolis’ dwellers are involved in dispersal movements, and won’t participate because of that reason. Citizens from all regions of Russia would be presented in a final selection. BelSU scientists have already performed such research for the central regions. Mikhail Churnosov, professor of BelSU biomedical science department told that research of human molecular genetics has been conducted in the university since early 2000s. The database of DNA samples of the citizens of Belgorod region and other Russia central regions has been based on it. «Our research work became the reason for the international consortium, which studied the genetic pool of modern Europeans to invite us in the project», said Mikhail Ivanovich.
