A new collection of exotic vegetables and spices from all over the world was opened to public at BelSU Botanical Garden
“We have begun to study economically valuable edible plants at BelSU Botanical Garden. The collection of new and uncommon spices and vegetables was created there. We conduct research of the special aspects of growing and productivity of such vegetables, uncommon for our region, as momordica, kiwano, wax gourd, cow pea, cucamelon, accocha, snake gourd, artichoke, gumbo etc”, – said Valeriy Tochtar, manager of the Botanical Garden.
For example, kiwano, momordica (Cucumis metuliferus E.May ex Naudin) and accocha (Cyclanthera pedata L.), which bear fruit at BelSU botanical garden, are popular throughout the world because of their nice flavor, medical properties and valuable chemical compound.
