The Principal of BelSU Prof. Oleg Polukhin took part in the opening of the only lysine plant in CIS
The plant was opened in Shebekino township of Belgorod Region. The opening was conducted by Agriculture Minister of Russian Federation Aleksandr Tkachyov.
”We have always imported amino acids and depended on other countries in that. It influenced the product’s cost greatly. Today we begin to produce our own amino acids”, – he said.
The project of the plant and lysine production technology were developed by BelSU scientists as part of State Grant program. The first batch of product was made in May 2015. The plant is situated on the former grounds of Soviet lysine plant of lesser capacity, – 6 000 tons per year. The new plant would process 205 tons of wheat per year and produce 57 000 tons of lysine-sulfate. Today, its staff consists of 610 employees, including university’s scientists and alumni, but this number is planned to be increased to 715 workers.
Lysine is one of three irreplaceable amino acids, used in forage production for live-stock animals and fish.
