Belgorod State University will cooperate with The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
A memorandum of mutual understanding between two organizations was signed at the meeting of First Provost of BelSU Tatiana Balabanova and representative of The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Bayisa Wak-Woya.
Mr. Wak-Woya visited Belgorod in order to participate in International scientific conference dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of UN, – “United Nations: Past, Present, Future”. He had a meeting with students, visited University’s museum and health center.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is ready to support those Russian organizations which help refugees. One of them is Belgorod State University. More than 900 students from South-East Ukraine study there due to a quota of Ministry of Education and Science.
“I’ve visited many Russian cities, which hosts refugees from Ukraine. It is interesting, that from Belgorod to Sakhalin I’ve never seen a single problem: refugees have good living conditions, including higher education. There is nothing like that in other countries”, – said Mr. Wak-Woya.
This cooperation offers not only the help to refugees, but also opens great possibilities for science and education. Tatiana Balabanova considered its perspectives as positive and effective:
“Belgorod State University signs treaties with organizations and institutions from Russia and other countries. But such cooperation is the most effective when both sides have not only mutual interests, but things in common in culture, history and mentality”, – she said.
Memorandum opens great possibilities for science, culture and education: experience exchange, cooperative events (seminars, conferences, exhibitions). Besides, organizations will take part in international projects for informational and material help for development of university’s potential. Cooperative work will include two-sided consultations for important questions of refugees’ protection.
