BelSU Botanical Garden was accepted to Botanical Garden Conservation International
At the conference dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the RAS Main Botanical Garden (Moscow) the possibility of BelSU Botanical Garden’s acceptance to Botanical Garden Conservation International was discussed. This organization unites about 2500 botanical gardens of the world where two thirds of total of plants species growing on the planet remain.
Director of BelSU Botanical Garden, the member of Russian Botanical Gardens Council, Dr.Sci.Biol., Valery Tokhtar, the Secretary general of BGCI, Paul Smith (Kew Gardens, London) and representative of this organization in Moscow Igor Smirnov have discussed the main directions of scientific and educational activity of botanical gardens within the BGCI organization and importance of BelSU Botanical Garden’s Accpetance.
Botanical Garden’s membership will allow employees to participate in work of this organization, to coordinate efforts with other gardens, to exchange plants for research, to be aware of the main events and events held in botanical gardens of the world, to obtain information concerning innovative approaches in science and education, implementation of the international scientific and educational projects in the botanical gardens.
Membership in BGCI is confirmed with the certificate sent from the headquarters of BGCI in London and the letter signed by the Secretary general of BGCI Paul Smith, where he expresses confidence in effective future cooperation with the Garden.
