Russia's Strongest Student Arm Wrestlers Arrive in Belgorod

This championship is the fifth of its kind, and only the strongest student athletes take part. Around twenty of them are involved with the Russian national team.
Among those who attended the opening ceremony were Dr Svetlana Ostrikova, Vice-Rector for Cultural and Physical Development, Mr Sergey Dubentsov, Deputy Head of the Regional Department for Physical Education and Sports, Dr Vladimir Krivchenkov, Director of the Svetlana Khorkina Sports Centre, and Dr Igor Nikulin, Dean of the Pedagogical Institute's Faculty of Physical Education.

In her speech, Dr Ostrikova noted that sports unite people, and that BSNRU has produced many outstanding athletes, who went on to become champions at National, European, International and at Olympic level. She presented a Master's of Physical Education Diploma to the World and European Arm Wrestling Champion Maxim Chersky.
Dr Nikulin will be the Tournament Referee, assisted by Mr Georgy Lobanov from Sevastopol, the chairman of the Russian Armed Wrestling Governing Council.
