Medical Students Attend a Conference in Moscow

Medical academics under the age of 35 were invited from Belarus and Russia to present their research to the conference. Among the youngest were our own 3^rd year medical students, Ekaterina Sivolenko and Daria Selina, both studying at the Medical Institute's Faculty of Preventive Medicine. They reported the results of their recent research in a paper titled 'Specific Features of Hepatitis A Outbreaks in the USA 2015-2017. The Strategy for Vaccine Prophylaxis for Hepatitis A in Russia and the United States.' They conducted a retrospective analysis of evidence published by the US Centre for Disease Control, drawing conclusions that should be taken into consideration in vaccination programs conducted in Russia against Hepatitis A.

The students were working under the guidance of Professor Mikhail Mikhailov, a fellow of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Professor Elena Malinnikova, both of whom teach at the Medical Institute's Faculty of Preventive Medicine. Since early 2017, they have been teaching at the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology on the subject of the problems associated with viral hepatitis.

Successful participants in the conference were awarded souvenirs, certificates and diplomas. Despite this being their first experience of such a conference, Ms Sivolenko and Ms Selina were well prepared and took 3^rd place in their category.
