National Student Volleyball Championship Finals Begin

The Svetlana Khorkina Sport Centre is the venue for the Championship, which is part of the 6^th National Student Games

16 Men's Volleyball Teams came from all over Russia to compete for the trophy. Our team, coached by Dr Larissa Zhilina, will play a team from the Leningrad State Institute of Economics, Finance, Law and Technology, and from the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health, in the group stage. Dr Svetlana Ostrikova, Vice-Rector for Cultural and Educational Affairs, welcomed athletes, coaches and fans, saying,
“Dear friends, we welcome you to Belgorod National Research University. As the name of this Centre suggests, sport is a major part of the life of our university. Many of our graduates go on to become European, World, and Olympic Champions and we are therefore well aware that behind these successes is a serious amount of dedication and hard work. Knowing how much effort you have put in, I wish you success in this competition.”

Sergey Dubentsov, Head of the Regional Department for Physical Education and Sport, hoped that all would remember their participation in this event with pride at well-earned victories. Valentin Zhukov, an adviser to the President of the National Volleyball Federation, and Olympic Champion Taras Khtey, added their best wishes before the action got under way.
