Professor Oleg Polukhin, the Rector of BNRU, visited the 'Interfax' press centre to give his assessment of a successful academic year
Professor Polukhin informed those present that, this year, a quarter of our 5,372 graduates achieved distinction level Diplomas. This is in line with last year's results, and is evidence of the continued motivation of our students, and a consistent quality of teaching. Of considerable help is the system of co-financing, which helps students with 20-35% of their course fees, depending on their chosen discipline. Students can expect to be supported throughout their studies, as long as they keep up their attendance, and maintain their standard of work. This, of course, is an additional incentive, another of which is the high rate of graduate employment. 80% of BNRU graduates find work in their chosen specialism, in part due to the University's education policy. The Rector explained that,
“BNRU is the only university in Russia that gives students a certificate of proficiency in a foreign language along with their diploma. Our foreign language education program gives our graduates the edge in the labour market.”
He went on to say that in the last year the University has been expanding its educational and scientific programs. Currently there are 19 Dissertation Councils in 12 scientific institutes, and 5 international laboratories operate alongside a research institute for the Pharmacology of Living Systems. The university also received 'Federal Innovation Site' status for training highly qualified personnel to help to expand the Master's and Postgraduate programs, and for retraining specialists in the field of project management.
After the Rector's assessment, Dr Alexander Galtsev, head of Admissions at BNRU, spoke about the Admissions process. He explained that, while there are no fundamental changes to last year, the number of co-financed places has increased in Engineering, and the University now guarantees University accommodation for students from outside of Belgorod and its suburbs.
