Staff and Students from BNRU went to Cyprus to participate in the 'Antiquity and the Middle Ages in the Cultural and Historical Heritage of Cyprus' international educational program run by the Cypriot Department of Antiquity
Our University teamed up with Dr Amalia Utamishi, of the GNOSIS International Scientific and Education Centre, and Iosif Hadjikyriakos, Director of the Phivos Stavrides Foundation – Larnaka Archives, with Professor Oleg Polukhin, Rector of BNRU, signing an agreement in May of this year. Professor Nikolai Bolgov, Dean of the History Department, and Dr Elena Litovchenko, the program coordinator, led the group on their visit.
The program included lectures, seminars, and visits to historical and archaeological sites. This provided students and teachers alike with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the rich and multifaceted cultural and historical heritage of Cyprus, and determine future pertinent areas of study. At the end of the trip, our team met up with local historians to discuss the prospects for cooperation in the near future. These included meeting the Belgorod Branch of the Byzantine Club, and participation in our own International Academic Centre for Neighbourhood & Identity Studies, as well as any future events in Cyprus.
