The 8th International Congress on Cognitive Linguistics, hosted by Moscow State University (MGU), yielded a meeting with the Russian Academy of Sciences' (RAS) Institute of Linguistics
The theme for the Conference was 'Cognitio and Communication in a Modern Global World', and was organised by MGU's Higher School of Translation, the Russian Association of Cognitive Linguists, and the RAS Institute of Linguistics. Dr Olga Dekhnich and Dr Irina Borisovskaya from the Institute for Cross-cultural Communication and International Relations (ICCCIR) were attending to hear from the leading lights in Russian Language Linguistics. Among the luminaries greeting the delegates, were RAS members Dr Viktor Sadovnichiy and Dr Nikolai Garbovsky, both from MGU, and Professor Nikolai Boldyrev, President of the Russian Association of Cognitive Linguists. The Conference has become a focal point for Russian Linguists, and an indispensable opportunity for networking and sharing ideas. Professor Valery Demyankov, had been a frequent visitor to BNRU in the 2000s, but his current lofty status has kept him very busy. He is now the Chief Researcher and Head of the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Faculty at the RAS Institute of Linguistics. His time spent lecturing at our University left an indelible impression on all concerned, and therefore Dr Dekhnich and Dr Borisovskaya were keen to renew our academic association through the ICCIR, a proposal which the Professor is enthusiastic about.
