Dr Lilia Zimakova gave a live-streamed lecture from Belgorod State University on 'Lean Production', as part of the Ministry of Education's Live-Streamed Lecture series
Dr Zimakova lectures at the Institute of Economics, and is an expert on Lean Production, a method of manufacturing developed by Toyota in the late 1980s. Lecturing from our University's Media Centre, Dr Zimakova explained the concept in detail, and examined the impact Lean Production had made when introduced in diverse areas of economic activity. She went on to share her own experience of the problems that are encountered when switching to the system. After this, she spoke about our University's new Department of Lean Technology, and the Master's program being developed there. The new Department also instructs business people, and sends its staff out to businesses engaged in adopting the system. Successful implementation of Lean Production methods leads to increased efficiency, less waste, and fewer overheads, thereby increasing profitability.
