Professor Igor Sokolov visited Belgorod State University to talk to our computer scientists at the 'Theory and Practice of Applying the Methods of Artificial Intelligence' conference
Professor Sokolov is the director of the 'IT and Management' Federal Research Centre in Moscow, and came to the University to give a lecture on 'Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Economy', as part of the postgraduate 'Winter School' program. A cross-section of the University, students, staff and administrators, attended the lecture. Professor Sokolov is a gifted speaker and has complete command of his area of expertise. During the lecture, he focused on issues relating to drivers of scientific and technological development, global research topics, information gathering and practical applications for artificial intelligence. Of particular interest to the audience was the development of domestic intellectual systems, implemented as part of the program for the development of artificial intelligence systems in Russia. He explained,
“The main objectives of the digital transformation of the economy of our country, are the formation of a national strategy for artificial intelligence, alongside the creation of advanced digital intelligent technology, and the broad adoption of intelligent systems in multiple sectors of Russia's digital economy.”
The Professor took time to praise the fundamental and applied research being undertaken by the University.
