Dr Svetlana Zhukova, Director of Belgorod State University's Engineering College, took her team on a trip to Kazan to find out how to become a leader in the WorldSkills project
The Kazan Technical School of Information Technology and Communications (KTSITC) has recognised expertise when it comes to WorldSkills, and is the benchmark for any organisation wishing to compete at international level. Our University intends to emulate their success, and establish a WorldSkills Training Centre at the Engineering College capable of preparing teams that will represent the Russian Federation. Dr Zhukova was greeted by two of the leading lights at KTSITC, Dr Olga Dyubanova and Dr Yulia Gadeyeva, who took time out from their busy preparations for the World Championship which they will host this year. Competitors will descend on KTSITC from 60 countries to compete in 56 categories.
Dr Zhukova's team were taken on a tour of the facilities, and watched as operators put their technology through its paces. The hosts were particularly keen to show off their new 'IT-Cube Centre for Children's IT Creativity', designed not only as an IT and software teaching centre, but as a tool for helping children choose future career paths. After the tour, Dr Zhukova signed an agreement on cooperation with KTSITC to bring Belgorod State University up to the same standard. The Rector, Professor Oleg Polukhin, has already agreed to a plan to provide the necessary support, in line with government policy in this area.
