The conference was organised by the State Tourism Development Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Samarkand State University and the Silk Road International University of Tourism, the latter hosting the event. Mr Torosyan was one of 130 delegates from 36 countries. His talk on 'The International Experience of the Development of Pilgrim Tourism, and Its Implementation in Uzbekistan', was well-received. He is studying at the Department of International Tourism and Hotel Management, and sees the value in attending this type of event, saying,
“The conference has become an excellent place to exchange experiences, and to share methods for developing Islamic and Christian pilgrimage tourism. I will be able to apply all the knowledge I have gained to the development of pilgrimage tourism in Belgorod Region.”
The conference involved a lively discussion of all of the issues associated with the subject, from promotion and tour operating, to visas and technology. All the details of their findings will be available in the conference papers, which will be published shortly.
