University Getting Better all the Time

The Rector and Vice-Rector were invited to attend the forum as the University has risen fast and high in the last 6 years. The Rector accepted a diploma from the organisers in recognition of his leadership. Since 2015 we have risen from 72^nd to 47^th in the overall ranking which is based on the assessment of students, graduates, academics and employers. The position is determined using three indicators: learning conditions, demand by employers for graduates, and research activity. We ranked 25^th in research. We are also ranked 33^rd in IT.

Following his award, the Rector spoke the plenary session on the 'Sustainable Development of Universities in the Era of New Challenges'. His talk tackled the impact of digitalisation on the educational environment, the development of university brands, and cooperation with schools with a view to preparing and selecting the most capable students. He used the experience of the University to illustrate his view. Along with the Vice-Rector, he then attended a meeting on 'University Rankings as an Essential Element of University Competition'. They discussed the competitiveness of Russian universities on the world stage, the effectiveness of the 5–100 Project, and how to develop best practices in higher education. The Rector shared our experiences of entering the TOP-100 in the Shanghai Subject Rating.

By coincidence, Interfax News Agency published its annual findings, and the University came 21^st. 288 Russian universities were evaluated in the rating (23 more than last year), including 29 National Research Universities, 10 Federal Universities, and 33 Basic Universities. 21 universities are participating in the 5-100 Project. The ranking also includes 7 leading non-state universities. In individual areas Belgorod State University scored highly, coming 5^th in the internationalisation, 20^th in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and 16^th in sociability. We ranked 10^th in Research.
