Representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences visited Belgorod State University

The guests examined the laboratory of plant biotechnology, whose employees are engaged in the clonal micropropagation of orchard and berry crops of rare varieties in vitro, their adaptation and rooting. They get high-quality planting material free of bacterial, viral and fungal infections. The head of the laboratory, candidate of biological sciences Lyudmila Tokhtar talked about how plants are grown; about their own developments, equipment that they use etc.

The Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Irina Donnik, having got acquainted with the scientific base of the Belgorod State University, noted its high-quality and modern level, stressing that it can be used as a platform for attracting scientists not only from the Belgorod region, but also from other regions, including Moscow, the Urals , Siberia. She also said that she would come up with a proposal to implement a project on microclonal propagation of tree crops. This is especially true in connection with forest fires in Siberia. To restore the forests destroyed by fire, a huge amount of planting material will be required. BelSU Laboratory of Plant Biotechnology may become the main outpost of this work.

Irina Donnik recalled that in the Belgorod region the country's only agricultural research and educational center "Innovative Solutions in the Agricultural Sector" was created. She emphasized that the visit of the RAS representatives to the region is aimed at determining the direction of the projects that will be implemented as part of the REC's activities, and which are important not only for the Belgorod Region, but for the whole Russia.

The Deputy Governor Olga Pavlova thanked the guests and the whole Russian Academy of Sciences, for the fact that it was ready to offer experts, scientists from around the world, to organize the work of the Belgorod REC.

On August 8, representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences will hold a working meeting "On the organization of the Scientific and Educational Center" Innovative Solutions in the Agro-Industrial Complex ", which will bring together members of the regional government, heads of districts, scientists and heads of universities participating in the REC, as well as representatives of enterprises - industrial partners of the region’s universities .
