Students, undergraduates, graduate students and young scientists from different cities of Russia and abroad discussed topical issues of Byzantology
The third All-Russian with international participation, the Byzantological school was held at the recreation complex "Nezhegol" of BelSU. The school was organized by the Belgorod branch of the Byzantine club, which is headed by the rector of the Belgorod State University Oleg Polukhin, and the metropolitan of Belgorod and Stary Oskol John. The university’s partners were the National Committee of Byzantinists of Russia and Moscow State University.
The moderators of the school were a research fellow at Moscow State University, Executive Secretary of the National Committee of Byzantinists of Russia and the Byzantine Journal Mikhail Graziansky, Senior Researcher at Moscow State University Nikolay Bystritsky and Head of BelSU Department of General History Nikolai Bolgov.
Students, undergraduates, graduate students and young scientists from different cities of Russia - Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Saratov, Tula, Belgorod, and Belarus (Minsk) took part in scientific events. The third school included both participants of past years and those who have recently become interested in the topic of Byzantium. The scientific program was dedicated to the study of three key areas of Byzantological research - sources, historical regions of the Byzantine Empire, theory and methodology of research. Nikolai Bolgov and students Sergey Tkachenko and Alisa Chaplygina presented the experience of international cooperation in Byzantological studies on the example of international summer schools of Belgorod State University in Armenia and Cyprus. Maria Rudneva, a graduate student at Belgorod State University, analyzed the topography and social context of the Byzantine megalopolis of Alexandria.
According to the organizers, the All-Russian Summer School in Byzantology allows not only to update the important problems of Byzantine studies, but also develops scientific links between various Byzantine centers. Mikhail Graziansky expressed the hope that the All-Russian Summer School in Byzantology will have its continuation and development in the coming years.
