Belgorod State University has begun its work as the coordinating hub for the nationally important 'Agro-Industry National Research Centre', as stipulated by Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation
The Rector, Professor Oleg Polukhin, welcomed an assembly of experts in life sciences from as far afield as Moscow, Volgograd, Pyatigorsk, and Perm. Guests included members and leaders from the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Deputy Regional Governor, Oleg Abramov, and academics and businessmen from across the region. The Rector was able to announce no fewer than 5 projects already under way, with a further 17 ready for planning. He expressed his satisfaction that this project was the start of something big, underlining the role that commercial exploitation will play in the project.
Vice-Rector Alexander Mamatov informed participants of the significant work already done by our university in this field, while the Deputy Governor spoke on the role of regional government in helping bridge the gap between academic innovations and commercial enterprise. The guests then had an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the work currently being done by our teams in genetic engineering, biotechnology, and medicine. There were many events included in proceedings, all designed to stimulate cooperation and innovation.
