Professor Oleg Polukhin, Rector of the University, held a meeting with our 'ambassadors', those special people tasked with informing potential students from around the world, about the benefits of an education at our University
The Rector was joined by Doctor Vladislav Kuchmisty, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, and Professor Olga Prokhorova, the Dean of the Institute for Cross-Cultural Communications and International Relations (ICCCIR), Nikolai Tsybulia, who heads the International Cooperation Department, and the Deputy Dean of the Medical Institute, Doctor Nikolai Belousov.
After a welcoming address by the Rector, the floor was taken by Luis Fernando Muñoz Andrade, who is responsible for bringing 80 new students to the University from Ecuador and surrounding countries. This year Mr Muñoz says there will be over 100. The program is now so successful in Ecuador, that there are plans for opening a reception centre that will familiarise potential students with the culture and language of Russia. In his opening address, the Rector mentioned this as the sort of effort that has made Belgorod State University a leader in attracting foreign students to Russia. He also underlined the fact that this is in line with the government's target of doubling the number of foreign students in Russia by 2024.
ICCCIR has therefore nominated Pengbo Zhao to promote the University in China. Dr Prokhorova introduced our alumna with a glowing reference. Ms Pengbo studied at the University for many years, and graduated with a love of Russian language and culture. Dr Belousov introduced the Medical Institute's nominee, Dr Abhai Kumar, a graduate, who will promote our University in India. Dr Kumar noted that the 8 years he spent at Belgorod State University were formative and valuable, and something that he feels would benefit his compatriots. He is currently finishing his residency in India and will return here to train as a surgeon.
The Rector was delighted to appoint them as ambassadors, and endorsed a new set of guidelines and agreements to facilitate their efforts. He hoped that this was the beginning of a successful campaign to promote Russian Education abroad.
