The Ministry of Education and Science has awarded Belgorod State University a grant to develop geophone technology along with 'Zvukotekhnika', a specialist company. The project is primarily for use in the mining industry, and will be led by our own Professor Oleg Kuzichkin
The Russian Federal Government has a long-standing goal of improving Russian technology, and eventually, hopes to lead in certain areas. This year 146 private companies and 79 universities applied for grants, with the Ministry selecting 45 projects for funding. The project, dreamt up in Professor Kuzichkin's Department for IT and Robotics, is a highly sensitive geophone that can map movements of rock deep beneath the surface of the earth. It has the potential to save money, and possibly lives in mining operations, by giving advanced warning of seismic activity. The project will be funded until 2021.
