Professor Oleg Polukhin, Rector of Belgorod State University, led a delegation to Tashkent to participate in the 18th International Conference on Education, personally meeting with potential students, and talking to their parents
The Rector takes his role as ambassador very seriously. Russian education is a significant part of the national economy, and he is always on a mission to promote and develop our University. Out of 23,000 students studying here, more than 3,000 hail from 92 foreign countries, including Uzbekistan. The number of Uzbek students has increased by 100 to 350 in the last 3 years, and the Rector has set a target of doubling the number of foreign students at the University by 2023.
He addressed the Conference, using it as an opportunity to promote our work, and explain why we are improving rapidly. Afterwards, he spoke to parents and potential students at length, about life in Belgorod, and at Belgorod State University.
Tashkent is a beautiful and historic city, but pity the delegation, they didn't have time to sightsee. They took the opportunity to meet as many people as possible before their return, including the Rector of Tashkent State Pedagogical University, with whom they concluded a tentative agreement on exchanges of staff and students in the future. They toured the University campus, and were grateful for the famed Uzbek hospitality. The Rector posited the idea of opening an office for the University, based on the success of the trip.
