The 'Let's Meet!' annual Preparatory Faculty concert is a chance for new non-Russian speaking students to show off their skills and meet fellow students from other countries, and from their host country
The Faculty was out in force to lend formality to the occasion, and they invited guests from other departments and beyond. This year, a local school was invited, along with staff from the Regional Children's Creativity Centre. After the formalities were concluded, Angolan students sang 'Angola', and performed some street dance moves. Vietnamese students then performed a dance called 'My Homeland'. After that, Chinese students sang some modern songs, translated into Mandarin. Then the Latin Americans wowed the crowd with some dances. The Preparatory Faculty was established in 1980 in order to prepare foreign students for study in the Russian language. Typically, students are given intensive courses for one academic year, with support extended where necessary. As the number of international students increases, so does the size of the faculty. Since its inauguration, the Faculty has processed more than 7,000 students from 48 different countries.
