Educational institutions of Belgorod State University have embarked on the next phase of work under the NICA international collider development megaproject
Representatives of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) - Deputy Head of the Scientific Experimental Department of Superconducting Magnets and Technologies and the Laboratory of High Energy Physics Artem Galimov and Deputy Chief Engineer of the Laboratory of High Energy Physics Sergey Anisimov visited Belgorod State University. Laboratory of High Energy Physics (LHEP) named after V. I. Veksler and A. M. Baldin of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) is currently working on a megaproject NICA (Nuclotron-based Ion Collider Facility). This is a new protons and heavy ions accelerator complex, which has been under construction since 2013 aimed at researching the properties of dense baryonic matter. The project involves more than 300 scientists from 70 institutions in 32 countries. Employees of the International Scientific and Educational Laboratory of Radiation Physics and SIE "Vacuum Systems and Technologies" under Dr. Sc., Professor Alexander Kubankin`s supervision also participate in the accelerator complex construction, in particular, in modeling the mechanical properties of the ion channel and in manufacturing of vacuum elements of the ion channel related to the diagnostics of collider beams.
Upon familiarizing themselves with the scientific and production capabilities of one of the excellence centers at NRU “BelSU”, which includes the Laboratory of Radiation Physics and SIE “Vacuum Systems and Technologies”, JINR scientists highly appreciated their equipment level and their colleagues` results. Plans for further cooperation in research and development of vacuum equipment for the installation of the megascience class - NICA collider are already outlined.
- The next stage is development of new methods for ion beams diagnostics and the development of special equipment for ultra-high vacuum, - Alexander Kubankin explained.
