The innovative project of the NRU "BelSU" Botanical Garden has received support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation

The results of the competition of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation among unique scientific facilities projects are summed up. The projects are aimed at the implementation of promising research programs within the framework of world-class research and educational centers. The project of the REC “NRU “BelSU” Botanical Garden”, implemented under the supervision of its Director, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Valery Tokhtar, became the competition winner. The project involves the creation of the second part of the plant biotechnology laboratory, improvement and modernization of the laboratory of genetics and plant breeding infrastructure, and the creation of a new experimental botany laboratory.

New scientific biotechnological and genetic selection methods and systems will be created within the framework of the project. These will include the development of effective methods for preserving the gene pool of rare plant species in the in vitro culture collection, the optimization of valuable crops clonal micropropagation and the effects study of the plants’ light flux spectral reflection aimed at their state and nitrogen status monitoring. As the project manager noted, the research results focus on solving the problems of import substitution and global promotion of the Belgorod Region Scientific and Educational Center “Innovative Solutions in the Agro-Industrial Complex”.
