Students of the Belgorod State University received bright fruits of their scientific work on the Science Day
The Biology Department of the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology investigates the conditions of bulbous plants early blooming. Scilla siberica, Tulip Cultivars, Tulipa praestans, Tulipa turkestanica, Muscari armeniacum bloom here in winter. The flowering process biology is actively studied by the student team under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Biology Department Tatyana Glubsheva. Studies are conducted by 4-year students - Chan Hoang Han from Vietnam and Inna Barybina, first-year undergraduates Zhurabek Gini Ugli Toshtemirov from Uzbekistan and Elizaveta Zyateva.
As the young researchers said, not every bulb is suitable for forcing: species, cultivar, conditions for the open ground bulb growing, as well as conditions and time for forcing preparation are important.
The cultivar choice for forcing is associated with the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. The bright red cultivar Parade, created in 1951 by the Dutch under Derek Lefeber`s guidance, blooms during the May holidays. This stable beautiful cultivar has a large flower, is suitable for forcing and is a great reminder of the Great Victory even in winter months.
Tatyana Nikolaevna notes that students and undergraduates' studies of bulb crops at the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology is associated with the implementation of the REC “Innovative Solutions in the Agro-Industrial Complex”.
