The NRU “BelSU” graduate gave an open lecture "Man in Antarctica: 200 years of history"

The event was timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the Antarctica discovery by the Russian expedition under the leadership of Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev. An open lecture by the candidate of geographical sciences, a researcher at the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a participant of 4 Russian Antarctic expeditions, Andrei Dolgikh, provoked widespread interest. Among the audience members were the students and teachers of the Belgorod State University, high school students of Belgorod schools №4, 20, 45, as well as Belgorod residents.

A graduate of the NRU “BelSU” Faculty of Geology and Geography told how the exploration of Antarctica was conducted earlier and what is happening on the “sixth continent” of the Earth now, with any economic activity, except scientific research, prohibited there. The audience learned how life proceeds in permafrost conditions, how the Antarctic station Progress is arranged, and what its employees do. At the end of the lecture, the researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences answered questions and also visited the Geological and Mineralogical Museum named after A.N. Petin.
