The NRU "BelSU" and the Russian-Cuban Friendship Society concluded a Cooperation Agreement

An expanded meeting of the Belgorod branch of the Russian-Cuban Friendship Society was held at the NRU “BelSU”. The regional branch of the RCFC was created in December 2019 on the basis of the National Research University "BelSU" as a part of the national project aimed at strengthening ties between Russia and Cuba. The deputy chief of the Department of Internal and Personnel Policy of the Belgorod region, the Head of the regional Culture Department Konstantin Kurganskiy and the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at the NRU “BelSU” Vladislav Kuchmisty were elected the department co-chairmen.

Rector of the Belgorod State University, Professor Oleg Polukhin, noted that the development of international relations is one of the university priorities, the latter being a part of a consortium of universities promoting Russian education abroad.

- Today, 518 students from thirteen Latin American countries study at the university, but we do not have students from Cuba yet. The creation of the Belgorod branch of RCFC is another incentive for us to establish relations with Cuban universities,” said Oleg Nikolaevich.

The regional department of RCFC included teachers of the NRU “BelSU” and students studying Spanish. Professor of the Faculty of Journalism Alexander Korochensky, who used to teach in Havana, suggested publishing the memoirs of all Belgorod citizens who had performed military duty or a social mission in Cuba. The idea was supported by the Rector of the university Oleg Polukhin, who voiced this proposal at the subsequent meeting with the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Alexei Lavrov during the signing of the cooperation agreement. The President of the RCFC approved the efforts taken by the members of the newly created Belgorod organization and said that the Russian government has developed a plan for the development of interstate relations until 2030, which includes the establishment of social, cultural, scientific and educational ties between institutions, organizations and citizens of the two countries.
