The representatives of Belgorod State University participated in a field expedition
The expedition covered the Voronezh, Rostov and Belgorod regions this August. Among the expedition participants were the representatives of Belogorye Nature Reserve, Zoology Institute of Russian Academy of Science and BelSU Research Centre for Genomic Selection. One of the locations investigated during the expedition was Khripunskaya Steppe. The field research was conducted on the uniquely beautiful and species diverse territories of Belgorod and Rostov regions. The Director of BelSU Research Centre for Genomic Selection Eduard Snegin while commenting the expedition results pointed out that the acquired data will serve as a good sampling material for the perspective research and education.
“We collected unique samples of flora and fauna in the investigated areas. The unknown before locations with rare species were mapped, the data reflecting the background animal population were gained, the latter being the indicators of the environmental health”, summed up Eduard Snegin.
The botanical and faunal samplings as a result of the expedition will be examined and analyzed in depth, the rare and listed in the Red Book species and will be identified.
