Initiated by Belgorod State University, five Russian universities and three institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which conduct scientific research in the field of materials science, have joined forces to create new materials and technologies for their processing
In addition to Belgorod University, the consortium includes A. A. Baikov Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Consortium also includes A.G. Merzhanov Institute of Metallurgy and Material Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the RAS Institute of Physics of Strength and Materials Science, South Ural State National Research University, Perm National Research Polytechnic University, Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) and Joint Stock Company “Russian State Scientific Center – Central Research Institute for Mechanical Engineering Technology”.
The consortium members will focus their joint research efforts on developing new materials and processing technologies including casting, thermal, thermo-mechanical or chemical-thermal treatment, welding, functional coatings, etc. using the most advanced structural methods of research in physical materials science.
To achieve the set goals, along with the use of material and technical facilities and complementary research equipment, a system of end-to-end training of highly qualified personnel in the field of materials science will be established.
Key areas of the consortium work will cover development of high-strength materials for the aerospace industry, mechanical and shipbuilding, power and agricultural engineering in the context of the objectives of the World-Class Research and Education Centre “Innovative Solutions in the Agri-Business” where BelSU acts as a base organization.
