Belgorod State University, Vympel and the Government of Belgorod region signed a cooperation agreement aimed at implementing a unique project in Russia on the network monitoring of greenhouse gas balance in the region
Vyacheslav Gladkov, Governor of the Belgorod region and Sergey Boev, General Director of Vympel IRPA and Oleg Polukhin, Rector of Belgorod State University signed the agreement.
The trilateral agreement assume a multifaceted cooperation between Vympel, Belgorod State University and the region. The participants of the six-year project will develop a functional system for monitoring the greenhouse gas balance for various natural and man-made geosystems in the region. One of the stages will include the research on determining carbon emissions by the regional enterprises and ensuring a carbon balance. As part of the project Belgorod State University will conduct scientific research and develop competitive technologies. For this purpose the Centre for Ecological Diagnostics and Rehabilitation will be established at the University and the first carbon polygon will be laid on the territory of the Botanical Garden already this year.
As part of the project in the context of the Program of the World-Class REC “Innovative solutions in Agri-Business” carbon farms will be established in the region for growing crops that effectively bind carbon, as well as enterprises specializing in breeding varieties of such crops and production of planting material.
