The 3rd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Discourse Study and Media Criticism of Mass Media” held at BelSU
The conference organized by BelSU along with Belgorod Office of Russian Union of Journalists, Belgorod-Media and the Department of Slavistics at the University of Bergamo, brought together more than a hundred representatives of Russian scientific centers, near and far abroad. It was possible because the conference was held in Russian and English.
The purpose is to exchange ideas and research experience in journalism and media communications. The main directions are the challenges of modernity and their reflection in the media, local news coverage in history and culture perspective, current problems of media criticism and media education, etc.
Vladislav Kuchmisty, Vice-Rector for BelSU International Cooperation, Yuri Gusakov, Chairman of Russian Union of Journalists at Belgorod, and Alexander Korochensky, First Dean of Faculty of Journalism, wished the participants productive work. Vladislav Kuchmisty noted the high importance of such forums, which create conditions for science and society dialogue.
Andrey Vasilyevich, Chairman of the committee and Head of Journalism Department, noted that today journalism facing value and ethical challenges needs awareness of its goals, duty and purpose by means of science as well. Yuri Pomelnikov, the regional adviser of State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company, stressed that the main thing in the journalist profession is ambition and decency.
Svetlana Ushakova, Head of Faculty of Journalism, reminded that science isolated does not exist. Ir needs the atmosphere, direct communication, exchange of ideas and discoveries. This is what the researchers’ traditional meeting in Belgorod is for.
Apart from the well-known scientists, the conference was attended by beginners – Russian postgraduates and graduates of St. Cyril and Methodius’ University in Trnava (Slovakia). Yuri Gusakov, a 2005 graduate of BelSU Journalism Department, ran a workshop “Regional journalism: from history to modern practices” for students.
