Cooperation between border regions as a factor of integration

A round table on “Cooperation of Border Regions as a Factor of Integration” was held at “Parlamentskaya gazeta” press centre. Grigory Rapota, a member of the Committee on International Affairs of the Federation Council, addressed the participants. He noted that the border regions of Russia have the potential to develop cooperation with the adjacent regions of the neighboring states. He pointed out the contribution of scientists in the development of humanitarian relations of border regions, and spoke about the need for local authorities to support sociological research and projects conducted by universities.

Viktor Sapryka, the Head of BelSU Department of Social Technologies and Public Service who took part in the roundtable presented the results of the complex research conducted by the universities. He presented the results of complex sociological diagnostics of Russian-Belarusian, Russian-Ukrainian borderland and Russia-EU borderland.

He noted that the population of the border regions is willing to participate in public diplomacy projects, and the border regions can become a zone of good-neighborly relations between Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union.
