Opening of the classroom named after St. Nikodim (Kononov), Bishop of Belgorod and Social Innovation Lab - Makerspace SUSWELL (Erasmus+) took place in the context of the 20th anniversary of the first and unique in Russia Social and Theological Faculty and dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the University
The classroom named after St. Nicodemus (Kononov), Bishop of Belgorod (1871-1919) was opened at the initiative of BelSU Rector Oleg Polukhin. The financial support was provided by BelSU Board of Trustees. As Oleg Polukhin noted, the university has a good tradition to fill the university spaces with new meaning and value at significant events and dates. The consecration ceremony was performed by Metropolitan John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol who thanked the university’s administration for preserving historical memory.
The opening of Social Innovation Lab - Makerspace SUSWELL (Erasmus+) - an innovation space for development, assessment and dissemination of social initiatives also took place. According to Kseniya Koroleva, the Head of Social Work Department, the main idea of the scientific and educational project is to promote the values of active longevity and healthy ageing. The laboratory will be opened as part of the international scientific and educational project “SUSWELL – Building Capacity towards Health and Well-being through Social Innovation in Kosovo and Russia” supported by the EU Erasmus program. The project is implemented by a consortium of nine universities and six NGOs from Russia, the Netherlands, Finland, Portugal, Belgium, Germany and Kosovo.
