A unique publication on lilacs was added to the collection of N.N. Strakhov Scientific Library

The idea to find the rare book belonged to Tatyana Polyakova, the Vice-President of International Lilac Society (ILS) in Russia and Asian countries who discovered the encyclopedia on the website of a foreign auction. It was purchased by Alexei Khmyrov, the Director of Project Management Centre which manages projects implemented under REC “Innovative Solutions in Agri-Business” Program. The Lilacs a garden´s encyclopedia contains the description of all lilacs varieties. Aleksey Khmyrov is ensured that it will be useful for both breeders of the Scientific and Research Centre – BelSU Botanical Garden, and students who are interested in the plant symbolizing the Victory Day.

He expressed confidence that the encyclopedia will promote the “Belgorod Lilac” project which has been implemented in Belgorod region by BelSU scientists for over three years. As a result, the botanical garden has the largest collection of lilacs numbering around 400 varieties. In the near future the project is planned to step up to the international level which will open a new page in the history of Belgorod Lilacs.
