Maxim Ozerov, a researcher of the Laboratory of Bulk Nanostructured Materials at the Research Institute of Materials Science and Innovative Technologies, received a grant of the President of the Russian Federation for the innovative composite development and study
The grant was awarded for developing a new composite based on the Ti40Zr26Nb24V5Al5 alloy reinforced with TiB. The young scientist Maksim Ozerov says that his goal is to create a durable composite material.
According to Maksim, it is possible to radically improve strength properties of titanium alloys by modifying their chemical composition and switching to the so-called 'high-entropic' compositions as well as by creating metal-matrix composites with ceramic reinforcing components – titanium boride particles. The young scientist believes that in order to achieve the utmost strength of the composites a comprehensive approach is needed which is related to the impact on each structural element that determines the behavior of the material.
The next stage will consist in developing composite samples that will be tested for strength, ductility and impact resistance in the course of the experiment. Maxim Ozerov is convinced that the composite based on high-entropy alloys will become a new word in advanced design solutions.
