The perspective of establishing a Research Institute for Genetic Technologies to be based on the United Genetic Technology Centre of Belgorod State University were discussed at the university’s Coordination Board conference
The Coordination Board for Genetic Technologies headed by BelSU Rector Oleg Polukhin summed up the results in 2021 and set the goals until 2025. In three years it is planned to establish the Research Institute for Genetic Technologies that will focus on research in genetics of humans, animals, plants and microorganisms. Another unique unit of the university, a gene therapy clinic, will be established by 2028.
The priority actiovities for the close perspective include developing the concept of the research institute and clinic, design of the project portfolio, upgrading the facilities and human resources enhancement.
The research units of the United Genetic Technology Centre are already addressing the issues related to gene therapy drugs production for orphan diseases treatment.
The Regional Microbiological Centre (RMC) headed by Inna Solyanikova, Professor of Biotechnology and Microbiology Department, beside working on supporting high-tech microbiological production in Belgorod region, plans to take over the production of plasmids required for the production of gene therapy drugs.
The Rector assigned to present roadmaps for each unit development until 2025 at the following Coordination Board conference.
