A mobile laboratory for the projects under World-Class REC “Innovative Solutions in Agri-Business” that is unique in the Central Federal District obtained due to the funding of the “Science and Universities” National Project
The BelSU mobile laboratory for genetic research and veterinary services looks like an ordinary minibus, but inside there is high-tech equipment providing for complex manipulations and research in genetics and veterinary medicine. Mobility is essential for the scientists who chose to travel to farms rather than deliver animals to the laboratory which is often problematic.
Professor Mikhail Pokrovsky, the Director of BelSU Research Institute of Pharmacology of Living Systems, noted that the vehicle converted into a mobile laboratory had been manufactured in Russia and most of the equipment was of Russian origin as well.
The expert added that at the moment the laboratory is involved in the project aimed at growing rabbits capable of producing human heat shock protein. However, the scientists forecast the possibility of utilizing this technology in agriculture. For example, one hundred eggs fertilised by good genetic material can be brought to a farm and implanted into ordinary cows in the laboratory vehicle. In this way a herd of highly productive animals can be produced. The first manipulations have already been carried out in the mobile laboratory. In particular, embryos have been taken from female Hickol rabbits and implanted into another female rabbit.
