The Preparatory Department action plan was discussed at the Academic Board conference chaired by Professor Oleg Polukhin, Rector of Belgorod State University
Vladislav Kuchmistiy, the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of Belgorod State University, the Acting Head of Preparatory Department, spoke about implementation of Development Programme for 2021-2023 and the goals for 2022. Vladislav Kuchmistiy underlined the programme aim consisting in providing a high level of language and subject training for students, their social and cultural adaptation as well as promotion of Belgorod State University brand both abroad and in the digital educational space.
Among the main successfully solved tasks the Vice-Rector referred to enhancing the quality of education and strengthening the level of pre-university training in the overall system of higher education at Belgorod State University. The emphasis was also placed on steady growth of the university’s student body: The number of Preparatory Department graduates has exceeded the planned figure by almost two times with 860 international students coming mostly from Egypt, Ecuador and Colombia.
Much attention was paid to international students’ adaptation. Specialists from the Department for Discipline, as well as staff of the Institute of Intercultural Communication and International Relations have been involved in the process through conducting linguistic, cultural and creative activities for students.
Oleg Polukhin assigned to develop a project on establishing centres to promote Russian language in priority regions of the world within two years – China, North Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
The rector set another task which consists in developing a system of personal tutoring and assumes that each Russian student will act as a tutor to an international student admitted to BelSU.
