The research work entitled “Asymmetric Synthesis of Heterocyclically Substituted Derivatives of (S)-Alanine and their Biological Screening” by a doctoral student of BelSU Medical Institute received high marks.
11 students from 7 institutes of Belgorod State University participated in the research papers competition held as part of the VII All-Russian Youth Scientific Forum. Elena Kuzubova, a 1st year doctoral student of Medical Institute reached the “Science of the Future is Science of the Youth” competition finals. Her scientific work was dedicated to the asymmetric synthesis of heterocyclic substituted derivatives of (S)-alanine and their biological screening. Ulyana Krut (BelSU) and Anna Mkrtchyan (Yerevan State University) were the scientific advisors.
As explained by the scientist, this is the synthesis of non-protein amino acids, which, according to the literature data, has a wide range of biological activity depending on the parent protein amino acid and the radical, which is attached to it during the experiment. The substance that was synthesized demonstrated activity against pathogenic microorganisms.
The scientist conducted the research at the “Armbiotechnology” Scientific and Production Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia while she was a semester student at Yerevan State University under the Study Abroad Presidential Scholarship program. At the end of her semester study Elena Kuzubova defended her scientific work at BelSU Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology.
The finals will take place from 23 to 26 August in Novosibirsk. The event will bring together the leading scientists, students and doctoral students from all over the country.
