The "smart" rehabilitation suitcase with biofeedback elements, developed by the scientists of Belgorod State University, was awarded a gold medal and an honorary diploma of the “One Belt, One Way” Youth Patent Incubation Exhibition in China.
The exhibition was held at the Chongqing International Exhibition Center as part of the Smart China Expo 2022 with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Information Department of the People's Republic of China. The project “Development and Testing of a New Method of Domiciliary ACE Patients Rehabilitation based on a Special Purpose Board” is being implemented by a team of young researchers supervised by Vladislav Dubrova, a doctoral student of Belgorod State University Medical Institute, as part of the “Prioritet-2030” Programme.
A "smart" developmental suitcase with biofeedback elements is designed to restore fine motor skills of stroke patients. Its prototype represents a “functional board” that reminds a children's busy-board with elements of fine motor skills development that allow restoring the motor function of the upper limbs and fingers of stroke patients. But the advantage of the case-suitcase consists in its small size and mobility: one can choose to practice on it at any time and in any place. Besides, the introduction of a specialized sensor system, that allows you to remotely evaluate the effectiveness of exercises, is considered to be unique.
As the project manager noted, due to the software with biofeedback elements, the device provides for reading the performance indicators of exercises – from the duration of classes in time, the degree of effort and the number of exercises performed. This information is transmitted to the attending physician’s computer, who ensures individual approach when drawing up a remote rehabilitation program. Currently, the scientists have obtained a know-how certificate and applied for a patent both for the invention and for the computer programs. The "smart" device will undergo a quality certification according to the international standards. At the moment, the development team is equipping the "smart" device with software and preparing for the initial tests. According to their results, if required, the suitcase case development will be concluded.
