The development by BelSU young scientists aimed at production of an effective antifungal agent was awarded the silver medal of the Youth Patent Incubation Exhibition “One Belt, One Way” held in China.
The jury highly evaluated the project entitled as “Composition with Antifungal Properties based on Pigment-Forming Bacteria” developed by the team of young researchers headed by Nikita Lyakhovchenko, a doctoral student of Medical Institute. The research group included students of the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology – Sofia Akhapkina, Alexander Seleznev, Victoria Efimova and Alexandra Koreshkova. The scientific director of the project is Professor of the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology Inna Solyanikova, the Director of the Regional Microbiological Center.
The project is being implemented according to the priorities of the world-class REC “Innovative Solutions in Agri-Business”. The scientists discovered that the resulting composition has antifungal properties that differ significantly from the activity of pure cultures. It contains the surface active compound that enable violacein, as an active constituent, to settle on the surface, thus prolonging the effect on mold fungi.
It is worth reminding that the project of Vladislav Dubrova, a doctoral student of BelSU Medical Institute, implemented under the “Prioritet-2030” program, was also the prize-winner of the exhibition. His “smart” device for patients rehabilitation after a stroke was awarded the gold medal.
