Stages of cooperation between Belgorod State University and National Research Centre "Kurchatov Institute" in the development of genetic technologies in crop growing of economically important crops on the example of cold-resistant varieties of grapes were discussed during the working visit of a representative of the Kurchatov Genomic Center to Belgorod State University.
A working visit to Belgorod State University by a representative of the Kurchatov Institute became a logical continuation of the signing of the protocol of intentions within the framework of the implementation of the projects by the Research and Education Center «Innovative solutions in the agro-industrial complex» and the program «Priority-2030».
Dmitriy Fedosov came to the Belgorod State University to develop a road map for scientific and technological cooperation in the field of viticulture and winemaking. For this purpose, he got acquainted with the existing grape collection and selected samples of several varieties for further genotyping in the Kurchatov laboratory.
Also, a soil sample was taken, which is most typical for the soils of the Belgorod region and includes a large amount of chalk deposits. Together with the soil, scientists extracted a small fragment of grape root to determine the unique features of the microbiome formed during the growth and development of the seedling.
The cooperation of the parties will not be limited to this project. The protocol of intent also stipulates cooperation in a number of other scientific areas of the University related to the development of genetic technologies in the agricultural sector and medicine.
