The Faculty of History and Philology of Belgorod State National Research University has become the venue for the 16th International Scientific Conference “Classical and Byzantine Tradition” attended by young scientists from Russian and foreign universities.
The conference was devoted to two imperishable foundations of modern culture: classical ancient history and its topical problems, as well as the history and culture of Byzantium, which is the basis of the national civilizational tradition.
The annual scientific conference was based on Priority 2030 program within the framework of the project “Regional Scientific and Educational Platform “The Byzantine Tree: the Roots of Orthodox Spirituality and Morality”. The main objective of the scientific conference was to involve more researchers interested in the topic of the Byzantine roots of the Russian civilizational tradition. This year, the forum brought together researchers from Tula, Voronezh, Moscow, Simferopol, Mirny, the Republic of Armenia, as well as scientists from Belgorod scientific centers such as I.D. Putilin Belgorod Law Institute of the Russian Internal Affairs Ministry and Belgorod State Museum of History and Local Lore.
According to Nikolay Bolgov, Professor of Universal History Department, Doctor of Historical Sciences, the conference was an important step towards the creation of the regional scientific-educational platform. He also stressed the importance of understanding the historical and cultural foundations of our country, remembering the traditions that our ancestors passed on to us to keep both feet on the ground in the flow of the constantly changing global historical processes.
The reports by Daria Dobrynina, Zvart Oganyan and Nikita Fartushny, students of the Faculty of History and Philology, were recognized as the best at the conference.
Conference proceedings will be published, which will include not only reports and reports, but also new translations of sources, a chronicle of events, a section on artistic publications on relevant historical periods.
