In the just-published Times Higher Education 2023 international university ranking, Belgorod State National Research University ranks in the 1501+ group.
This year, the Times Higher Education 2023 ranking includes a record number of higher education institutions – 1,799 universities (compared to 1,662 last year) from 104 countries (last year there were 99), which made it the most representative in the world. For the first time, data from over 2,500 universities were taken into account when compiling the ranking table (2,112 universities were considered in the previous year's ranking).
The number of Russian participants in the ranking has also increased significantly this year – from 60 to 76 universities. At the same time, Russian universities show a downward trend, starting with the leader of the Russian rating table – Moscow State University, which has retained its position in the top 200, but moved from 158 to 163 place.
In the group of Russian universities, NRU “BelSU” is located at the position 41-76. Vice-Rector for the Implementation of Strategic Development Programs Andrey Peresypkin noted that the current geopolitical situation has also affected the rankings.
– The attitude towards Russian and Belarusian universities can be seen even by the design of the ranking table: they were visually excluded by using a light gray font color that practically merges with the background of the table, - said Andrey Peresypkin.
At the same time, analysts note that the dominance of American universities in the ranking has already been challenged by Chinese universities and universities in Oceania.
