The issues related to BelSU infrastructure for social and cultural adaptation of international students were discussed at a conference of the Board for Intercultural Communication.
Special attention at the conference chaired by Elena Tsukunova, the Vice-Rector for Discipline and Youth Policy of Belgorod State University, was on the integration of students from Latin America in the general university socio-cultural community. Elena Nazarenko, the Deputy Head of Preparatory Department, talked about the adaptation of international students. She noted that the university had accumulated vast experience of work with international students and developed a unique range of activities enduring fast adaptation of international students in the socio-cultural environment.
She also noted the role of the Centre for Intercultural Communication, the Centre for Civic and Patriotic Education Belgorod State University and the recently opened Peoples' Friendship Centre.
The curators of the Latin American Student Communities Olga Lyutova and Inna Kuznetsova made reports on the integration of their students into the university socio-cultural environment. Olga Lyutova emphasized that Latin American students had been actively involved in research, socially relevant events, sports and creative activities.
This set of activities contributes to the proactive students lifestyle the multicultural university community, promotes their adaptation to the new socio-cultural and linguistic environment, to the conditions of learning, living and integration into the educational and extracurricular processes.
Inna Kuznetsova stated that due to the current geopolitical situation the focus would be on the positive image of Russia and respectful attitude to the history and culture of our country in the work with the student community of Latin America and other international communities of Belgorod State University.
The conference participants also covered the issue of acquainting students not only with the cultures of the world represented by the students of Belgorod State University from 103 countries, but also of holding the events dedicated to the history and culture of the peoples of Russia, of which there are about 200. The relevant thematic events were proposed to be held at the new Peoples' Friendship Centre.
