A thematic event dedicated to the culture and traditions of Russia and Belgorod region was held at the Peoples' Friendship Centre of Belgorod State University.
The event, being the part of the “Local Linguistic Sketches of Belgorod Region for Foreigners” series, was attended by the students from Benin, Colombia, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Haiti, Iraq, Nigeria and Sudan. Young people study at different institutes of Belgorod State University and at Preparatory Department.
The participants were told about Orthodox traditions of celebrating Easter in Belgorod region and were introduced to the Russian language vocabulary related to this holiday.
Olga Lutova, the Director of the Peoples' Friendship Centre, taught the students new words “Paskha” and “kulich", explained the peculiarities of their usage in different regions of Russia.
The volunteers of the Institute of Social Sciences and Mass Communications conducted a master class wooden eggs colouring.
The event guest Valeria Golous, the Vice-Chair of BROO “Union of Officers”, told the students about the main dishes of the Easter holiday and those customary for the Sunday Easter breakfast or lunch that are specific in Belgorod region.
While discussing the traditions of Easter celebration, students from different countries shared their family customs of this holiday, noting that there are no such large-scale preparations and such beautiful traditions as in Russia.
At the end of the event the participants were treated to festive kulichki and Easter eggs.
