The Mahmoud Darwish Center for Arabic Language and Culture welcomed students of Belgorod universities who came from Jordan and other Middle Eastern countries to study in Russia.
The event opened solemnly with the anthem of the Kingdom of Jordan. Its independence was declared on May 25, 1946. It is worth to remark that to this date 855 students from 14 Arab states study at NRU BSU. One hundred of them are from Jordan, and all of them are united in the Arab states Community.
Mr. Khalid Abdullah Kraiem Shawabka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Russian Federation, addressed words of congratulations to the students of the BSU.
– I would like to convey my sincere congratulations to our dear students like a father to his children! I wish you, my dear ones, success in further education and professional activity! Good luck, more knowledge and prospects! And, traditionally, on behalf of all our students, I wish health and prosperity to our people, country and honourable King Abdullah ibn Hussein II for many years to come! – said the Ambassador, thanking for the organization of the event his compatriot, student of BSU Suhaib Alkhalidi, as well as the leadership of NRU BSU and all those who helped this holiday to take place.
Dr. Askari Jehad, Head of the Graduates Committee of the Association of Graduates and Students of Higher Education Institutions of the Belgorod Region, congratulated the Jordanians on the holiday. He spoke about the historical significance of the independence of this country, as well as about Jordan's relations with other Arab countries and the important role of Russian education in the Arab states.
– Today, Russia and Jordan effectively cooperate on international platforms in the interests of peace and security. Both countries strive for communication and partnership in the spheres of public diplomacy, education and culture. More and more students from Jordan choose Russian universities for their studies, which undoubtedly contributes to the rapprochement of our cultures and confirms the high level and quality of Russian education – Dr. Askari stressed.
Natalia Zhukovskaya, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of BSU, congratulated the students from Jordan on behalf of the university administration, wishing peace, wellbeing and prosperity to their homeland. She spoke about her considerable experience of working in Arab states, including Jordan, about the hospitality of the Arab people, and expressed her hope for strengthening partnership in all scopes of activity with the Middle East and North African region.
The event was also joined by Russian and foreign student activists of the National Friendship Centre and the Belgorod State Institute of Arts and Culture.
At the event, hosts and international students from the Arab states performed patriotic poems and songs both about their homeland and about Russia, a place where they chose to study.
At the end of the event, the participants were able to see the national exhibition and taste traditional Jordanian sweets.
