Alexandra Gomonova, a master’s student from Belgorod National Research University, has emerged as the only representative from the Belgorod Region among the top hundred winners in the first stage of the prestigious 35th All-Russian Mendeleev Competition of Chemists.
This annual competition, which has been a platform for talented chemistry students from Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States for over 30 years, showcases high-caliber scientific papers.
Alexandra presented her research on synthesizing nanostructured strontium-doped hydroxyapatite for dental restorative applications. Her work, which lies at the intersection of chemistry and materials science, addresses specific challenges in regenerative medicine. The expert committee, composed of leading scientists and industry representatives, highly praised her findings.
The research was guided by Associate Professors Mikhail Trubitsyn and Natalia Volovicheva from the Department of General Chemistry. Mikhail Trubitsyn noted that Alexandra's interdisciplinary project, developed under the UMNIK grant competition by the Innovation Promotion Fund, has led to a patent application in Russia. Next, Gomonova will present her work at the Mendeleev School-Conference of Young Scientists, an event that invites authors of outstanding research.
The Mendeleev Competition aims to foster research initiatives in chemistry and materials science while building connections between academia and industry to enhance technological leadership in Russia. Organizers include the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Chemical Society, Lomonosov Moscow State University, MIREA - Russian Technological University, and Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology.
