Participants were assigned to resolve a legal case and help a Syrian citizen protect his rights.
Third-year students from the Law Institute at Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) recently participated in the Professional Lawyer Skills 10th All-Russian Student Olympiad, organized with the support of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Russian Federation. This event aims to assist refugees, internally displaced persons, and stateless individuals.
The Olympiad featured a game format designed to closely simulate real-world legal scenarios, allowing participants to practice vital skills such as interviewing, case analysis, consulting, and document drafting. Teamwork was essential, and thanks to their collaborative efforts, the BelSU representatives achieved remarkable results: Daria Sudovtseva’s team secured first place, Valeria Korop’s team earned second place, and Daria Dobrovolskaya’s team took home the bronze medal.
“The Olympiad was a true professional test, presenting challenges that we accepted with dignity. For three days, we acted as a team of lawyers whose decisions could impact someone's future. There were both highs and lows, but despite the difficulties, we gained invaluable experience that deepened our understanding of the importance of our future profession,” shared Daria Sudovtseva.
Throughout the Olympiad, students worked on a mock case and received feedback from judges who are highly qualified practicing lawyers and academics committed to advancing clinical legal education.
